Tension Springs
Materials, Manufacturing, and Quality for Tension Springs
Tension springs must reliably absorb forces and perform consistently over many load cycles – which is precisely why they are a key functional component in many technical applications. The brandgroup manufactures high-quality tension springs for industrial applications, covering a wide range of materials, wire gauges, and end configurations, so that tension springs can be designed to suit both compact assemblies and robust series solutions. We process the entire range of materials – from cold-drawn and patented spring steels to stainless steels and high-strength, oil-hardened valve spring wire grades – ensuring that tension springs remain stable even under high dynamic loads and in demanding environments. At brandgroup, tension springs are manufactured fully automatically up to a wire diameter of 6.50 mm and semi-automatically up to 12.00 mm, allowing for cost-effective mass production without compromising on precision and repeatability. Particularly relevant in practice is the reliable reproducibility of the process, because even small deviations in eyelets, hooks, or transitions can measurably affect the assembly forces and service life of tension springs. When you consider tension springs as a component within the overall system, you also benefit from the fact that the material, geometry, and final design of the tension springs can be precisely tailored to your installation requirements.
Custom Shapes, Surface Finishes, and Service Life Optimization for Tension Springs
A key focus for tension springs with custom shapes is the eye area, as the ends of tension springs are often the areas subjected to the highest stress, and the eye geometry directly influences both fatigue strength and installation reliability. In addition, a wide variety of surface finishes, color markings, and labels are available for tension springs and can be customized. To optimize service life, multiple shot peening can be applied to tension springs, making the surface more resistant to fatigue and significantly increasing the service life of tension springs under dynamic loads. The brandgroup also manufactures tension spring assemblies consisting of spring bodies with mounting components in large-scale production, allowing tension springs to be delivered as pre-assembled functional units and reducing interface risks during installation.
Tension Springs for the Gate Industry
For the gate industry, the brandgroup manufactures tension springs for garage doors in various designs and with wire diameters of up to 8.00 mm, ensuring that the springs function reliably even under high forces and the typical load cycles encountered during gate operation. For double and multiple-strand assemblies, wire diameters up to 3.30 mm are used to precisely achieve the desired spring effect in the assembly and to design the tension springs for easy installation. Surface treatments such as galvanizing, oiling, painting, or powder coating are available for tension springs, as are tension springs with eyelet formations upon customer request, if the mounting or fatigue strength of the tension springs needs to be specifically optimized. We supply, among other things, in material grades DIN EN 10270-1 or DIN EN 6931-1 (stainless steels). Special grades are available upon request. If you require complementary components in addition to tension springs, the brandgroup offers further solutions such as wire-formed parts / torsion bar springs, leaf springs, or arc springs to ensure that assemblies are technically well-coordinated and that the interfaces with your tension springs remain consistent.
